Lisa Hentrich: Hear Music

My Dad was battling lung cancer when I started writing it, and I was trying to imagine what it must feel like for him. He was always quietly strong, healthy and invincible to our family, and he was suddenly in the fight of his life with his own body. So as I began writing the words, 'I wish you’d leave... I don’t want you here... ' I was writing not only what I thought he was thinking, but also writing what I was feeling. I just wanted it to go away and leave him alone. When I played what I'd written for Tammy later that day, it nearly brought her to tears. She said, “My Mother-in-Law is going through treatment for breast cancer right now. I would be honored to write this song with you.” I’m sorry to say my Dad lost his fight, but he will always be an angel looking over my shoulder and I always think of him when I hear this song. The good news is, Tammy’s Mother-in-Law is in remission and doing well as of this writing. This song has been an inspiration to her during her recovery and to others we’ve shared it with who have been touched by this disease. I hope it will continue to be a source of strength to people who need it."
