Lisa Hentrich: Hear Music
4. White Line
(Lisa Hentrich/Marcia Ramirez)
"I carried this idea around for a long time. I’m big on interesting titles, and I think this one has that element of mystery that makes you wonder what it’s about. I had this picture in my head of a person driving and crying, looking at the white line on their ring finger and also at the white line on the road in front of her. I’m really glad I mentioned the idea to Marcia, because our conversation about it led to a much more interesting first line than I originally had. (I’m big on first lines, too.) It’s one of my favorites, both musically and lyrically, and it can transform into different moods depending on the production…. Marcia did a version on her album that has a totally different vibe than the punched-up production we did for my album."
